Description :
As Project Accountant, you will report, monitor and manage the project accounts of a BAE Systems business area against the budget and latest forecast including a variety of accounting/analysis activities in the assigned areas. To deliver a fully owned Business Plan, with assumptions noted and agreed in line that supports the value plan deliverables.


Experience Required :

Typical Responsibilities include the following:-

1. Understanding of Actuals in the Profit and Loss Account and Balance sheet for each project and any corresponding balance sheet items.

2. Forecasting against orders, sales, profit and cash using the provided templates in line with the month end timetable.

3. Timely provision of a Summary Contract Status Report (SSR) and trading plans.

4. Monthly clearance of SSR actions and issues escalated where required.

5. Producing accounting/financial forecasts, analyses and reports for a specific business area, including Opportunities and Vulnerabilities, which are fully owned by the Project Manager.

6. Delivering a fully owned Integrated Business Plan (IBP), with assumptions noted and agreed that supports the value plan deliverables.

7. Carrying out regular and ad-hoc financial analyses to meet management needs, including investigating variances and assisting in establishing plans to meet budget.

8. Contributing as required to the development/amendment of computerised accounting systems.

9. Undertaking risk management exercises, providing financial judgements and recommendations to business managers to assist in financial management, control and the decision making process.

10. Contributing to developing new procedures and working methods to improve the effectiveness of the team/department.

11. Overseeing assigned accounting systems and budgets to ensure accurate records are maintained and up to date and in order to meet audit and statutory requirements.

12. Planing, controlling and delivering assigned projects, and contribute financial support to cross-functional projects/investigations, ensuring requirements are delivered to plan.

13. Preparing basic business cases/investment appraisals and new business case approvals, to support effective expenditure decisions.

 

Qualifications and Experience

The role would suit someone who is qualified CIMA / passed CIMA finalist, although this is not a prerequisite. The ideal candidate will have substantial accounting experience, strong Excel skills, used to working to tight timescales, good communication skills and enjoy working in a mixed team.

·        Experience of project accounting with ability to work on own initiative

·        Maintain professionalism at all times and ability to work to tight deadlines

·        Good IT and spreadsheet skills; good working knowledge of financial software packages

·        Able to communicate financial information legibly and succinctly to individuals and groups outside the function

·        Able to identify, in standard areas, problems and trends which are likely to cause future problems/issues

·        Broad knowledge of corporate issues and developments, business terminology, procedures and reporting requirements

·        Knowledge of other functions e.g. Commercial, Procurement and Project Management

·        Good presentation skills

·        Strong analytical skills; good knowledge of relevant analytical techniques e.g. NPV, Variance Analysis etc
